The main aim of the intervention
is to provide effective support to carers who look after someone
who is diagnosed with schizophrenia. It takes a carer focused rather
than a patient focused approach. It involves identifying carers'
strengths, developing a plan to facilitate the carer moving on in
their life at whatever level that is.
The support intervention is offered over a 12-week period. Weekly
meetings are recommended Some carers may need fewer sessions.
